Suburb Denim

The story of Suburb Jeans is the story of fashion designer Sabine Portenier and entrepreneur Erwin Gyger. It all began with visits to each other’s companies, during which they recognized the similarities in their respective creative work:

Portenier has always stood for in-house development and production, as well as bespoke designs. Gyger works with equal precision; until 2023, he crafted custom-made rubber flat-roof suits, positioning himself at the very origins of workwear for decades. Thus, the focus of their collaboration was quickly established: jeans, a universal garment that transcends generations and cultures. Driven by a love of experimentation and a passion for the craft, the two free spirits have made Suburb Jeans an alternative to classic jeans production: they deliberately keep the development, production, and value-creation processes close to home, use only metal for the buttons, and sew the raw denim with threads made from recycled PET.
