Kitchener
What began in 1967 as a basement shop in Bern has had a lasting impact on Swiss retail culture. We started with vintage clothing and records from London and imported the first pair of jeans to Bern. In 1978, we founded Kitchener Sporting Goods and Hooger Booger, the first Swiss skate and snowboard label. That same year, the legendary, often-copied Kitchener bag was born—a reusable nylon backpack that made history beyond Switzerland’s borders.
Starting as an independent family business, we evolved into one of the very first concept stores.
Driven by curiosity, our interest in cultural trends, and a love of beauty, we curate our selection. We choose individuality over the mainstream. Our focus is not on fleeting trends, but on products built to last. A unique blend of basics and the unexpected—from all over the world.
Spanning over 1,000 square meters, we offer our customers a whole world of products at our locations on Aarbergergasse in Bern and in the Viadukt in Zurich: from clothing and furniture to niche fragrances and toothbrushes, as well as books, stationery, and groceries.
We believe that knowing where a product comes from—and who made it—changes how we view it. It becomes more unique, more meaningful—and thus brings us greater joy. We prioritize fair partnerships and materials with a low environmental impact.
